The bath is located directly on the river Rhine and had to be planned and built with special consideration for flood protection on the dyke. For this, ground improvements without excavation via vibro-piling and a multi-storey building with different functional areas were built. The roof structure forms a particularly light steel roof with very filigree perforated web girders (cellform beams).

Refurbishment and Repair, New Construction of a Rehearsal Stage

    Show details

The Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz is a listed building in the centre of Munich. In the course of a general renovation, the foyer, auditorium and stage were refurbished and a new extension for rehearsal rooms and administration was built.

To make the new building possible on the completely overbuilt site, several underground floors were necessary, which were built in a watertight building pit enclosure more than 10 m deep. During the extensive work in the excavation pit, the stability of the directly adjacent residential buildings, as well as the listed façade, had to be guaranteed at all times, and the complete functional preservation of the historic stage had to be maintained.

The orchestra rehearsal hall was arranged on the roof of the new building as a steel and glass construction in an amorphous structure and forms the visually striking end of the building.

The further development of the concept for the bulk materials recycling centre on Mühlangerstrasse included roofing over the container storage areas.

After an extensive study of variants, a construction was chosen that covers the entire storage area with 23 arches. At the height of the container belts, the steel arches were covered with trapezoidal sheet metal. The trapezoidal sheeting protects the containers from precipitation and also accommodates a solar system. The arch abutments were built on a pile head plate with drilled piles underneath.

This intelligent structural concept fully met the client's requirements. In addition, the use of materials was minimised, an architecturally sophisticated construction was created and at the same time the largest solar system in the city of Munich was installed.

As an extension of the thermal complex, the hotel was integrated into the wave pool of Therme Erding. It serves as the outer boundary and at the same time absorbs the loads from the movable arched roof.

To speed up the construction time, the structure was largely built with prefabricated concrete elements.

The hotel area is divided into two wings, Venezia and Victory. The interior façade of Victory is modelled on the ship's side of the battleship Victory, while the façade of Venezia is based on Venetian rococo façades.

The Michaeligymnasium (High-School) in Munich was extended by a two- and three-storey classroom wing and a sports hall.

The classroom wing was constructed using timber elements with wide-span timber ceiling elements and minimalist steel façade supports. The overall bracing was provided exclusively by the timber walls.

The sports hall was given a roof made of filigree glued-laminated trusses and circumferential window strips that give the impression of a floating roof.

The special challenges of the project was in the planning and structural design of the connection points, which required a great deal of development work in a very confined space with high architectural standards and taking into account the specific properties of wood as a material.

Mr Martin Fischnaller was awarded 2nd prize for this project at the nationwide Young Professionals competition of the Association of Consulting Engineers (VBI) on 18.10.2013.

The “Tiger” is a combat helicopter of the German Armed Forces, for whose army flight squadron a maintenance building was erected at the Otto Lilienthal Barracks in Roth. The building contains a maintenance hangar for helicopters and adjoining workshops and offices.

The 170 m long structure was built without joints on a foundation of vibro-piles. To allow the hangar to be used as flexibly as possible, the master offices cantilever out without supports in the hangar area. For a clear view of the apron, the airfield surveillance was arranged on the hangar roof.

According to an intelligent choice of building materials and the optimal use of prefabricated structures, the construction time was kept within the planned timeframe and the construction costs were even below the planned budget after completion.

PULS is an industrial company specialising in the development and production of electronic power supply devices. A new production building with storage and administration areas was constructed for the company in the industrial zone of Chomutov/Czech Rep..

In the roof construction of the production halls, slender perforated steel girders (cell form beams) were used, which optimally fulfil the requirements for minimised material use in combination with installation possibilities.

The highest demands were placed on the ceilings in terms of dynamic loads, vibration behaviour and deformations for the placement of the sensitive production machines.

The external appearance is characterised by the facades made of an aluminium sheet facade and enamelled glass panels.
